Information for Donors
- The donation process takes approximately one hour. With social distancing, the donation time maybe increased.
- Potential donors should review Blood Donor Qualifications - https://www.vitalant.org/Donate/Donor-Eligibility.aspx.
- We encourage appointments.
- Donors must be free of flu and cold like symptoms.
- Donors should arrive well-nourished and hydrated.
- Donors need photo identification with first and last name.
- Fast Track – Donors can complete the health questionnaire online prior to arriving to the drive – visit vitalant.org and click the ‘Health History Questionnaire’ link. The questionnaire must be completed the same day as the donation. Fast Track Link
Vitalant is committed to staff, donor and patient safety – With COVID-19 we have implemented additional safety protocols and we continue to adapt to a fluid situation. Blood donation is being actively encouraged by the CDC, the Surgeon General and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) even in cities and states where “shelter in place” and restrictions on “essential activities” have been implemented. Below is an overview of our safety measures.
What steps will be taken to reduce transmission of COVID-19?
- We are encouraging appointments to reduce crowding.
- Appointments are limited to reduce waiting.
- Walk-ins will be accommodated only if space allows. Otherwise, we will take the person’s contact information and call them when/if a space opens up.
- We are changing our set up to meet social distancing requirements.
- Vitalant staff follow rigorous safety and disinfection protocols at blood drives and donation centers.
- We are taking temperatures upon entry of the donation center/blood drive.
